How BMR Helps in Weight Loss

The Basal metabolic rate or BMR is crucial in weight loss. A person must record and monitor his or her diet in a week to obtain the BMR rate. To calculate the BMR the person must take his or her BMR number and add it into the activity calories. Then he or she must subtract the food calories from the total. If the results show that a person is eating more than his or her BMR plus activity calories, most likely the person is prone to gaining more weight. As an example of this calculation, a lady who is having a BMR rate of 1300 calories and an activity calorie of 800 which comes from doing exercises, household chores and other activities. In order for that person to maintain the regular weight the person must eat around 2100 calories (1300 plus 800 calories). In case the person finds out in his or her food journal that he or she consumes 2500 calories in a day it means that the person has an excess of 400 calories. If he or she continues this way, he or she will gain more pounds in a week or so.
